Located in Southeast Michigan, Ann Arbor is just 45 miles west of Detroit and 35 miles north of the Ohio border. A number of very historic and fast-growing towns surround the city. A pleasant drive along country roads in any direction leads to one village and town after another. Barton Hills, Chelsea, Dexter, Manchester, Milan and Saline are all within 30 minutes of the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. Many residents of Glacier Hills have called this area home at one time or another in their lives. Other residents have come to Glacier Hills from many locations around the country to be near family or to enjoy the area from their college experience.
Ann Arbor is best known as the home of the University of Michigan, one of the country's top universities. In many ways, the University shapes the composition of the city's economy, population and cultural awareness. The city was founded in 1824, and is named for the wives of its two founders (both named Ann), and for its natural groves or arbors.
The Ann Arbor area has a great deal to offer, from a wide variety of cultural events to golf, shopping, dining, culture, fairs and festivals. The area has numerous hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants and attractions that cater to groups with a variety of sizes, interests and budgets.
The ever-changing atmosphere of Ann Arbor and the surrounding communities is what makes it an exciting place to live and visit. The beauty of the scenery changes with the season. There are many different activities to pursue year round. Here's just a sampling:
- The Ann Arbor Art Fairs are in full swing each July with selections of art, jewelry, crafts and tasty food to enjoy.
- As spring arrives in Michigan, so does the excitement over the Ann Arbor Antiques Market, which is open each Sunday through early fall.
- The University Musical Society offers world-renown concert performers through its season running from fall through spring.
Residents of Glacier Hills have the opportunity to partake of these community events and many, many more. |
